Lake Sabrina Fishing Report

Lake Sabrina Boat Landing Staff
Oh, what a beautiful week at the Lake. Got a bit of a sprinkle on Friday evening, but all in all – gorgeous blue days! With the warmer days, the Lake is starting to rise – over the weekend we rose about 2 feet – woo-hoo! Got some cooler temps coming in and a chance of sprinkles and snow, so that may slow the run-off down a tad.
Fishing was on the good side this week. Fishing the Inlets with the normal stuff - NightCrawlers, PowerBait or Jigs, might want to try the occasional piece of garlic (go figure). Trolling is on the slow side – if trolling’s your thing try the shoreline or channels with Thomas Buoyants, NightCrawlers or WoolyBuggers. Shore fishing with NightCrawlers, Garlic PowerBait or tossing Lures. Got a good load of Department of Fish and Wildlife fish Wednesday. If you catch a tagged fish, it’s just the DFW letting you know their putting in some larger fish – No need to report it.
So we know we have two Bald Eagles – they were seen flying together – Yippee! And we know we have one Bear who visited Wednesday night. We also had four deer swimming across the back of the Lake. I think there’s a song in there somewhere.
Mule Days starts May 24th – Check out all the fun stuff to do at the Bishop Chamber of Commerce website: www.BishopVisitor.com.
Starting, May 20th, the Lake Sabrina Café will be open seven days a week:
Breakfast 7:00am – 11:00am
Lunch 11:00am – 4:00pm
The skeeters have returned and they are big enough to take your first born – we’re hoping this little cold front will take care of them. If you’re coming to the Lake, don’t forget sunscreen and dark glasses –the snow and sun makes it pretty bright against the blue sky. DON’T FORGET THAT JACKET.
According to the Ranger Station it looks like the Forks, Four Jeffry, Intake 2, Bishop Park, Big Trees and BitterBrush in the Bishop Creek Canyon will be open on April 28th -North Lake, Sabrina Camp and Willow will open around Memorial Day. Bishop Creek Lodge, Creekside RV Park and Cardinal Village Resort will all be opened for Opener. Parchers Resort opens this weekend.
Looks like we might be getting some weather again this week – all kinds of weather. There’s a chance of some thunderbooms and sprinkles thru Wednesday, then a bit breezy thru Friday, then we’ve got a chance of snow showers on Sunday. Temps look to be in the low 50s this weekend for highs and the upper 20s for the lows. You can check out the weather forecast according to Howard our local weather ‘guesser’ at www.MammothWeather.com. You can also check out www.weather.gov – enter Aspendell, CA (which is the little community right below Lake Sabrina) in the search field and you’ll get the forecast for at the higher elevation. You may need to scroll down on the webpage to see the temps.
