A few good ones

9/8/15 Certainly not the final day that we were hoping for; the vast schools of Bluefin Tuna being fished during the past week most definitely moved on but for a few scraps that were reluctant to bite again. We did have a few shots, saving us the humiliation of a complete bust, but the day overall was more than a bit frustrating from the bridge perspective. Finding them after a long, worrisome morning of plowing around for zero only to have them respond with their middle finger is a ground hog day scenario that we are all too familiar with this season. One would imagine that the frustration of such injustice would be tempered by the regularity with which it occurs while targeting bluefin. It isn't. The standard bluefin modus operandi only increases their value to Captains, crewmen, and anglers alike. They are special. Because of this we continue to subject ourselves to their tortuous behavior awaiting the reckoning that every angler willing to endure the pain ultimately distributes. They get what they have coming in the end; it's only a matter of time. But today they won this round. The up side of the equation was beautiful weather, scenery, and a positive atmosphere on deck throughout. A wealth of beautiful RSW product in the hatch from our first couple of days did wonders in that respect. This northern portion of the voyage was a quality seeking endeavor to be sure. Every angler below knew the score and put in their time at the rail seeking that one big reward – two or three if they were lucky; and some definitely were. Today's image features one such lucky individual who landed the jackpot winning 48 pounder during a long morning drift. John Garner and Blake were equally pleased with this result after a well fought battle. Before moving on to the next 3 day run sponsored by “The Bight” we extend our most gracious thank you to charter master Mark Rhodes who headed up the second annual “Catalina Air Harbor” four day adventure.
