Camp Far West Fishing Report
8-13-2015
RB Bass
I invited one of my coworkers, Ruthie to fish with me at Camp Far for a few hours. We got to the lake around nine and launched the boat. The main ramp is still available and the dock is still useable for now. The water temp at the ramp was 77 with about 2ft of visibility. Being Ruthie’s first time bass fishing, I rigged up a drop shot rod with a 4” Robo Worm in the Morning Dawn color for her and a 2” Berkley Gulp Minnow, smelt color on a round head jig for me. We started fishing main lake points in the north arm first. I was graphing bait and fish between 15 to 25 ft deep but after a half hour with no bites we made a run up lake toward the river. I stopped outside the mouth of the quarry cove and we dropped our baits off the point in about 15 ft of water. If you were on the lake that day I’m sure you heard Ruthie celebrating once her first bass ever came aboard! A good solid 2 1/2 pound spot, but to her it was like a 10 pound toad!
We continued to catch a number of spots for about a half hour or so before the bite slowed. I then ran up the river arm to the flooded tree cove. Water temp here was 81 with about 1 ft of visibility. We picked up some more fish on the drop shot and I caught a nice large mouth off a tree with a shad colored spinnerbait. We headed back to the dock around 2:30. A great short day on the water and even better getting another beginner hooked on bass fishing. Truth be told, she kicked my butt catching 90% of the fish! As always, thank you for checking with RBBass and be sure to take a first time or beginner fisherman out with you and help keep the sport of fishing alive.

We caught our fish in a 1′ to 4′ of water in sparse thules and a hard bottom having 1′ of water visibility. I was throwing my Senkos on 17lb Trilene 100% flurocarbon on a...... Read More
