Hey folks-
After taking a load of sardines and anchovies we headed out to a new area to look for yellowfin tuna and yellowtail. The ride out was a dream, flat calm and sunny skies but when we awoke this morning the breeze had picked up significantly and it was darn right choppy.
As soon as it was light enough to see we went in search mode and it didn’t take long to connect with our first kelp. We were bit right away and had most of the boat bent. It was all really good grade yellowtail from 14-30# mostly 22# fish. After the yellowtail faded out we picked a few tuna. The second stop on the kelp was rather lackluster so we went in search of some more. Finding kelp was not the problem but finding kelp with anything on them was.
We finally found another big kelp with a school after lunch for another good whack all good grade fish.
We enjoyed a New York steak dinner while heading downs well then plunged our way home through the swells. It’s nights like theses that I appreciate the Shogun the most for its stable ride and wise beam.
Wish us luck and tight lines.
