Fish Report for 7-5-2015

Ending the holiday weekend with a BANG!

This holiday weekend ends much as it did last week with a surge of White Seabass coming from the outer island fleet. Captain Tucker and the Mirage strike again as they catch 48 Seabass on this most recent trip. Every overnight boat caught a few Seabass today but the 24 lucky anglers on the Mirage had the best score. On the local scene it was a completely different story all together. Conditions were reportedly tough and the fish didn’t want to cooperate. No lack of sightings on both the sonar and surface disturbances, but they just seemed off the bite. Captain Mike on the Erna B established position on a spot that would have produced but conditions and boat pressure made it difficult. The Erna B ended up hooking about a dozen Yellows but only landed half of them. They were fishing next to a ridge of underwater structure so if you didn’t pull hard and get the fish turned, they were gone! The biggest Yellowtail today was pushing 40lbs with most of the others between 25lb and 30lbs. We are at the beginning of a new week with high hopes of an opportunity to score big.

Today's Fish Count: 9 boats and 199 anglers.

62 White Seabass, 7 Yellowtail, 7 Barracuda, 2 Bonito, 4 Halibut, 18 Calico Bass, 40 Ocean Whitefish, 12 Opaleye, 40 Perch, 40 Lingcod, 88 Sheephead 1 Sculpin and 1,646 Rockfish.
