Log another fantastic day for the entire fleet. Bluefin to the west, yellowfin in droves to the east - supermarket fishing. Epic weather - flat calm, fish to the horizon; happy times for one and all. As fishermen this is what we live for.
We had the easy one this round beginning and ending our day on yellowfin in one drift. Extending the drift I suppose is the easy way to describe it. Following a peaceful night of rest floating along in offshore heaven all awoke to ravenous, 15 - 25# yellowfin ready to rock. They were ready and so were we taking full advantage of their wanton appetite. By mid day west was the call; new ground to assess while the afternoon passed by. Anglers, exhausted by eight hours of rail time yankin' and crankin', were grateful for the respite utilizing the time to catch up on a few z's and revel in success.
Bluefin is now the call. To the west we committ. There we will remain until the job is done. Photo today features Ron Wade with a fine example of the present quarry - a chunky, 40# class Bluefin tuna.

8-25-20148/25/14 About as calm an atmosphere as one could imagine adrift nearly all day in pristine conditions. Plunking at 30 - 40# bluefin all the while the pace was always enough to maintain interest with periods when things came alive; about as classic a "plunker" bite as one can describe. 8/23/14 The trend continues; first day out, a flurry of rigging and three hours of quick travel, and the games begin. A good afternoon on quality yellowfin began this impromptu four day run on the right note.These bonus, day of departure rounds are really something, and but for a few of times in my long range fishing career so far from the norm it's difficult to grasp that this pattern has become standard for summer 2014.
