The trend continues; first day out, a flurry of rigging and three hours of quick travel, and the games begin. A good afternoon on quality yellowfin began this impromptu four day run on the right note. These bonus, day of departure rounds are really something, and but for a few of times in my long range fishing career so far from the norm it's difficult to grasp that this pattern has become standard for summer 2014. What an incredible windfall that once again demonstrates the unlimited potential for surprise that offshore ocean fishing posseses.

Of course there are multiple facets to every cycle. In the present case the predominate sentiment among Randy and I is that plenty more good is yet to come; beyond this season as well. Taking history into account the potential for an extension of this up cycle is as good as we have ever seen. I mention this in advance of our new, 2015/2016 schedule being introduced in upcoming weeks.

For obvious reasons I expect interest in our summer and fall voyages to be strong. I want to encourage anyone and everyone considering a 2015 Royal Star summer voyage in particular to give Tracy, Brian, Randy, or I a call in the office to confirm reservations. Space is already limited from anglers re booking their 2014 adventures but presently trips are not full. Now is the perfect time to nail down a few spots if you are interested.

Also we still have a handful of spaces available on the upcoming seven day voyages departing Saturday, September 13, returning Saturday September 20th, and Saturday, Septmeber 20th returning Saturday, September 27. Aside from an act of God turning this ocean over expect the current trend to continue. If you have yet to capitalize on the remarkable fishing this summer, or have and want the dream to continue, opportunity calls.

For now the present on board focus is offshore tuna of both kinds. Very good signs of bluefin beckon but not before we give these beautiful, 20 - 35# yellowfin another try. Epic conditions - continuing flat calm, open the door making available all options. It's a very good thing right now; a very good time to be a fisherman in these zones. No one is missing the significance of this incredible fortune around here; we are righfully grateful to be included.

Photo today features new Royal Star angler Rita Da More with a fine example of the grade of yellowfin caught today. Good times.

08/22/14 Today we fished offshore looking for the elusive bluefin tuna. We had great weather and good success finding the fish. The fish today were in their "not biting mode." We did manage to make a day of it, scratching up a few handfuls of 35-45# bluefin and one standout that weighed in at 97.8#. A few more yellowfin tuna rounded out our catch for the day. Rob Hunt gets the honors today with his 97# trophy. Tim will be at...... Read More
