A lot of looking today as we crossed the bad lands heading south. What a desert; no birds, no life - a sterile ocean transmitting the obvious to my obstinate refusal to eliminate this zone entirely, before today. Now I am convinced. We gave this zone, above and below, two thorough runs in the past week. Now we can check it off the list for a while with a clear conscience.

Setting up a few days of coastal yellowtail fishing after our epic beginning offshore the run down ultimately served a purpose. Shifting gears for at least a day we will focus on variety in scenery and species targeted before trekking north again to finish on the offshore grounds; kinda hard not to with the caliber of action and quality of both species of tunas now available in Mexico's fertile waters. But for now we are in yellowtail mode, the signs discovered late in our previous visit to the lower climes convincingly beckons. Beautiful weather, a wealth of time, and an RSW tank holding pure gold position us exactly where we prefer to be; now to keep a firm hold on the ball.

Photos today feature long time Royal Star veterans Barney Wegener, with his dandy 122 pound bluefin tuna, and John Finneran with his pristine trophy that squeaked in just under the 100 mark at 99; both worthy triumphs by any standard. A quick admin note to conclude today's narrative is a couple of spaces have just come available on our Saturday August 30th - Saturday Sept 6th seven day. At this point the fishing speaks for itself, and I beileve that plenty more is yet to come. The history of that time frame, and that voyage in particular, is rich with exploits of triumph and success. Rest assured that the present set up suggests nothing other than the same. Good times and good fishing await. If you can make it give Tracy a call.

8/10/14 Gratitude to all those essential in resolving the bluefin tuna issue in Mexico. I know that all of us in the sport fishing community were unspeakably disappointed by the sudden, inexplicable mid July 2014 closure of the recreational bluefin tuna fishery in Mexico. The underlying reasons were addressed with logic by sound individuals skilled in diplomacy. The positive results, with ample time remaining in the 2014 summer season, speak for themselves. It is another example of how effective we all...... Read More
