A long, languid day of slow, sloooooooooow scratching awaiting game time in the early evening through mid night. It
was mighty relaxing in continuing lake like conditions, and the occasional tuna or wahoo produced just enough
excitement to motivate at least a few anglers to try their hand at all times. The best of it though definitely came
in the dark acquainting these anglers with classic "old school" long range fishing.

Night time is the right time and certainly offers it's share of surprises to those who have not experienced this
style of fishing before. Between consistently erratic behavior of the hooked fish, the different feel of many
actual bites, and the challenges of keeping track of one's gear in the dark everyone at the rail has to bring their
A game to make it work.

And this is when the experience of a veteran crew really shines. The strongest focus, especially during the first
couple of outings, is on elevating our anglers skills and awareness as they adapt to the significant differences
between day time and night time fishing for trophy yellowfin. Of course this is easier said than done. But, when
the initial growing pains are survived, the night mode is an entirely unique, incredibly rewarding brand of fishing
excitement with an adrenaline junkie like appeal. To label it "the real deal" is an understatement - when it is.

Photo for the day is drawn from a few days back when veteran Royal Star angler John Oross broke the ice with his
first deuce in five long trips, and his personal best, that weighed in at a cool 241#. The big gear was the
difference again in John's epic contest that pushed both him and his rigging to the limit. Needless to say the
results made it all worth it. Congratulations to John from all of us; this one was a long time in coming.

4/21/13 There were some high moments today, finally, as we hopped into the saddle and wrangled some quality tuna well into the night. It was a relief, but we are not over the hump yet; at least now we have a start. Present conditions can only be described as excellent; both fishing and sea state; beautiful would be an understatement. Fish sign is equally inspiring - an abundance of quality yellowfin one hundred times better than anything we have yet encountered. Getting...... Read More

4/20/13 Not an easy go of it, yet, and by all indications the near future just may have plenty more of this in store. Other than driving hard, and wrenching every last one of these rotten so and so's from their cozy oceanic lair, there is little else to say or do. We are on the road again in what has become a do or die situation. It goes without saying that the bridge atmosphere is thick with consternation as the weight of this...... Read More
