The Department of Fish and Game, in cooperation with the California Deer Association (CDA), will be hosting junior deer hunting opportunities on the 30,000-acre Chimineas Unit of the Carrizo Plain Ecological Reserve in San Luis Obispo County.??

The junior hunt will be held on Sept. 16 and 17, 2006, and will be for deer only. Three junior hunters will be chosen by drawing to participate. All juniors must be accompanied by an adult. The day includes classroom, range and field assistance in the techniques of gun handling and safety, deer hunting and game care. There will be shooting practice as well as instruction on wildlife and hunting. Participants will be guided on their hunts by CDA volunteers. This will be a two-day event, with overnight lodging available at the main ranch house on the ecological reserve. CDA will provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday as well as breakfast and lunch on Sunday.
