Fish Report for 11-6-2007
Polaris Supreme - October 27 - November 6, 2007
11-6-2007
Larry Brown
Just imagine thousands of beautifully lit up marlin all around the boat jumping and free swimming, slashing at every bait, jig or wahoo bomb that hits the water. Then the electric, adrenalin bursting run of a big wahoo after it inhales your bait or bomb, if you are lucky enough to get it through the now seemingly pesky marlin. Throw in some giant bull dorado and it sounds like a fantasy fishing trip of a lifetime.? That's exactly what 22 anglers experienced on the Polaris Supreme's 10 day charter with Larry Brown Oct 27 - Nov 6, 2007.
"What an absolutely, fantastic, unbelievable day," wrote Tommy Rothery aboard his Polaris Supreme November 2. "We had more marlin than you can imagine. We hooked and are released over 220. The wahoo fishing was also fantastic. The group had a blast pulling in "crocodile" size wahoo. And we topped off the day with even bigger dorado than yesterday. The weather is good and we just had an awesome day on all three: wahoo, dorado and marlin."
The next day, Rothery wrote, "Well if we thought yesterday was phenomenal, today was even better. I know I'm repeating myself but the fishing was just great again on the wahoo and dorado. And yes, the marlin are still here and wanted to play.? The place was thick with marlin. There's lots of bait and the water where we're fishing is 78 to 79 degrees.
Besides great fishing, we have a ton of fun raffles due to the generosity of our great sponsors. We have themes for all of our trips, including catch and release, feed the hungry and youth fishing fund raisers. Our cash raffles generated over $1,000, which will be donated to the Marina Del Rey Youth Fishing Program and the Chuck Byron Youth Fishing and Art Foundation, respectively.
Chris Minnick of Pasadena won first place for a 71.6-pound yellowfin, he subdued in about 15 minutes with his red Avet reel. Mike Mayes of Rancho Santa Margarita won second place for a 54.6-pound wahoo and? Ron Stafford of Minot, ND won third place for a 53-pound yellowfin tuna.
I've never seen so many marlin gathered in one area in my life. International marlin fishermen would have given their right eye for this experience. We hooked and safely released over 400 marlin. It was so funny to hear curses of another marlin bite when we we're targeting the huge dorado and big wahoo. But we truly did realize and appreciate? that we were indeed experiencing marlin fishing possibly never seen by other anglers in all of history. Wow, what a trip!!!!!!
