Lake Oroville
Bass anglers are still finding success on Lake Oroville, reported Fil Torres at Oroville Outdoors. "Bass fishing is not bad", noted Torres. "It took about 10 pounds [for 5 bass] to win the tournament over the weekend, and there were some spots over three pounds included.

"The fish are hitting on a variety of things at 12 to 30 feet along main lake breaks. Fish are being caught on dropshot rigs, tubes and jigs. The main forage is definitely crawdads, and colors like oxblood and june bug are best."

Torres tipped, "There were a few larger coho salmon in the four to five pound range, and quite a few of the thick-bodied 15 to 16-inchers at anywhere from 30 to 90 feet."

Sacramento River
Salmon fishing remains unproductive on the Sacramento River, according to Phil Peeples at The Tackle Box in Chico. "Salmon fishing has been very slow", said Peeples. "We checked an angler three days ago who got one, and said he had gotten another on the day previous.

"There are still some four to five pound stripers being caught on cut bait, and some wild trout and steelhead up around Los Molinos."

Peeples added, "We will have the big Remington Factory Demo truck here on Nov. 8 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It will have displays of all the new Remington guns and ammo, along with Springfield and Leopold products."

CA smallmouth record
A new California record for a five-fish limit of smallmouth bass was set in late September on Trinity Lake during a Red Bluff Anglers tournament, reported Jim Clarkson of Raptor Rod Works in Chico. "The record was set by Bill Prince of Red Bluff Sporting Goods", said Clarkson. "Bill caught five smallmouth totaling 27.7 pounds in a 45-minute window of dropshotting with a Raptor Rod. The previous record was 27.5 pounds."

BBAC dinner
The Black Bass Action Committee will hold its' annual fundraising banquet at 6:00 PM on November 14 at The Depot restaurant in Oroville. A great assortment of raffle and auction prizes will be available, including rods and reels, wildlife art, and even a special "live bait" bass fishing trip on Clear Lake with guide Ben Williams.

The group also maintains a strong political presence in Sacramento in advocacy of bass-fishing related issues. Tickets price is $35.
