IInterested in a career in the outdoors and protecting California's extraordinary fish and wildlife resources? Consider becoming a Fish and Game Warden. The application deadline to take the warden cadet exam is Dec. 1, 2006.

"Some of the fondest memories are from my patrol days as a Game Warden," said Department of Fish and Game (DFG) Director Ryan Broddrick, who spent the first 16 years of his career with DFG as a warden.

Several patrol opportunities await those interested in exploring a career as a warden. Wardens patrol mountain and desert areas, large cities and small towns, forests of the north coast, the vast Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, and the ocean - including 1,100 miles of California's shoreline. They patrol on foot, horseback, airplane, ATV, in standard patrol vehicles, and boats of all sizes - DFG has several large ocean patrol vessels with full crews. Wardens also have full peace officer powers and enforce the laws related to hunting and fishing, pollution in California waterways, laws against degrading the environment as well as public safety and homeland security.
