Fish Report for 10-7-2007

Lake Sabrina Fish Report 10-07-07

10-7-2007
Rick, Patti, Juanita and Jerrod

Fishing improved this week with the cooling temperatures. Cooling - Rick says - it got downright COLD. Friday we never reached 32 and throw in the winds and snow we hovered between 13 and 19 (wind-chill temps). We did hit 21 for the high - that`s wind-chill high. Lots of wind last week, too. And when you mix high winds and cold temperatures - the fall leaves took a bit of a hit.

You all should be able to give the fishing report - same things seem to be working. One group braved the cool temps on Saturday back at the inlet and scored big - lots of limits for that group. Fishing the inlets and rock piles with worms and PowerBait same with drifting and shore fishing. Trollers were using flashers and a worm or frog-pattern lures. Some bubbles and fly were catching fish too.

The Department of Fish and Game stocked the lake Tuesday with pan-size fish and a few fish tipping the scales at 2-pounds. If you happen to catch a fish with a tag in the gill, it`s just to let you know the DFG are stocking with some larger fish. We ask that you all be real careful this year and remember Smokey`s Motto - "Only YOU can prevent Forest Fires!"

The Forestry has closed the following campgrounds for the season - North Lake, Sabrina Camp and Willow campground.

Nimrod is living up to the meaning of his name - a great and devoted hunter with 7 catches this week. We may just keep him around. Lo`s fur is growing and with the temps of this past week and those to come I`m sure he`s warmer. And HI? Well Hi is still just being the laid back dog - Hi.

The temperatures are achanging - highs ranged this week from the low 60s to the high 30s, while the lows went from the high 40s to the high teens. Howard is predicting storms every couple of days this week - the first storm is for Tuesday evening thru Wednesday with winds and cooler temperatures. The next storm is for Thursday evening into Friday with a chance of a couple of inches of snow. The weekend is expected to be nice, but cool. REMEMBER - you are in the mountains - anything could happen.

Remember, the campgrounds tend to be a bit on the cooler side as they sit down in the canyon by the stream you all like to have running by your camp.

We have our fleet of green fishing boats, 2 kayaks for rent along with a canoe and the Party Boat (pontoon boat) which has propane BBQ for those wanting to fry up some burgers or hot dogs with out on the lake and keep on fishing.

Remember the sunscreen, bug repellent, chains, warm clothes & gloves. Never know what you might need in the Sierra. Might want to throw in a Poncho or two for those afternoon thunder bumpers.

Feeling unlucky? Remember to wash your hands after putting on your sunscreen or bug repellent. The fish can smell it and taste and it doesn`t taste any better to them than it does to you.
