Chartermasters Beth Sarachman and Matt Hornschune ran a four-day trip aboard the Red Rooster III with skipper Andy Cates that arrived at H&M Landing September 12.
"Our annual Charkbait tackle 4 day put us back on our regular schedule," wrote Cates September 9, "after two nice 1.5 day trips up in the albacore grounds. This trip they like to fish Islands more than offshore. We started out at Guadalupe yesterday at lunch and had a nice afternoon with 45 tuna from 35 to 65 pounds; also 8 yellowtail to go with."
At the scales, Val Villarreal of Torrance put up the best fish, a 60.6-pound tuna that bit on a 3/0 circle hook, 40-pound P-Line on a Daiwa 50 reel and a seven and a half-foot rod he got from Dan Hernandez.
Fred Chavez of LA was second for a 56.9-pounder, and Jared Flicker of Ananheim was third, for a 56.5-pound Guadalupe Island yellowfin tuna.
