Queen Of Hearts Sportfishing Fish Report 09-11-07

Half Moon Bay Sportfishing Staff

I just heard from Bob who's in Portland at the fishery management meetings this week. It's not a done deal yet, but it appears the rockfishing season this year along the North Central coastline (Cape Mendicino to Pigeon Point) may close as early as October 1. Why? Too much impact on the forbidden red fish. Thankfully the area below Pigeon Point will remain open so boats from Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz, Monterey and ports south will still be able to continue to go rockfishing through the end of November as scheduled, but rockfishing north of those ports will be done until next season. I believe the final vote will come down on Thursday, so tune in within the next couple of days for the final word. Again, we WILL be able to go rockfishing out of Half Moon Bay, we will just have to go below Pigeon Point like we did when we began this season in May. Don't freak out yet...they're still working on it...but don't be surprised if it happens.

I know, I know, "Sherry, how come you haven't been updating your Fishing Report?" Nothing new...just the same old "too much to do and not enough time to do it all" syndrome. I've been so busy I haven't really had a chance to get too many details about the trips this past week, and the details are what make the reports. So, I'll work on adding in more details, but I at least have our daily scores listed above updated....... Read More

The big brownies and coppers were biting, so we loaded up on them, threw a lingcod in the boat for good measure, and paddled back in with limits once again. Plenty of space available tomorrow on Friday, so just come on down if you want to join us and don't get a chance to touch base with us beforehand. Check in by no later than 6:15. Look for the BIG yellow "TICKET OFFICE" sign in our front window....... Read More
