Eric Wedele docked Qualifier 105 at Pt. Loma Sportfishing November 1 after a ten-day trip with 26 anglers. In his internet reports from October 28 and 29, he wrote of some very good wahoo fishing.

"What a day!" he wrote the 28th. "Is it possible to have good fishing all trip, and then make your trip in one day of fishing? I don't know. We had an excellent day of Wahoo fishing and it seems that way. I'm stoked that everybody had the privilege of capturing at least one Wahoo.

"The second we left a bite, all eyes were looking for our next kelp. We had so much fun that we are going to spend the night and hope for more good fishing tomorrow. One of our passengers (who will remain nameless) was so excited after he and his long-time friend (who will also remain nameless) both caught a beautiful Wahoo. He did not wash his hands before casting out to catch another, and tossed his entire setup in the water. The best part about it was that he had such a good day that it did not even matter.

"We spent a very peaceful night drifting on a tranquil sea," he wrote the next day. "We fired up bright and early and got searching for more Wahoo. It took us a little while to get the right stuff located, but from there on it was game on. To my utter amazement, one of the passengers aboard asked when we are going to go catch something other than Wahoo. With beautiful weather, we are currently on course for the Baja coastline, in search of Yellowtail and other near-coastal fish." At the dock, Art Lyons of LA had the best ???hoo, a 58-pounder he enticed with a mackerel on a 6/0 Gamakatsu hook and 50-pound Maxima line. He said he used an Avet LX reel and a Seeker Black Steel 6470 H rod.

Phil Bailey of Malibu ("Malibu Phil") won second place for a sardine-eating 53-pounder, and Stephen Kovalcheck of San Diego was third, for a 52-pound wahoo.
