Trout season at Dixon Lake is off to an excellent start. The November 12 stock of 4,500 lbs. has brought out hundreds of trout within only a couple of days.

PowerBait crappie jigs seem to be the biggest attractant for the Nebraska Tailwalkers. Reliable night crawlers have also brought out their fair share of fish.

Trout Cove and Jack Creek Cove are alternating as the most popular fishing spots; Trout Cove being the most popular immediately after stocking, and Jack Creek picking up speed in the later part of the week. Pier 1 has remained consistent for anglers.

While almost every angler has been successful in their fishing efforts, notable larger catches have been made nearly every day since the stock.

Escondido locals have been the biggest catchers. Mark Olivo brought in a 7 lb., 8oz. trout late in the afternoon on the 12th, using the popular crappie jig near Boat Dock Cove. Dan Gorman caught an impressive 9 lb. Tailwalker using a pink jig in Jack Creek the following day.

Dixon Lake Rangers are pleased to announce The 36th??Annual Trout Derby has been re-scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 5-7th. Any additional details of the new derby dates will be updated as the dates reach closer.

To make this four-day event competitive for the novice, as well as the skilled angler, there are a variety of ways to win. Prizes will be awarded for the following five categories: the largest trout of the derby, the largest in each age category (senior, adult, and youth), the first and second largest trout of each day, the smallest trout of the derby, and for the first 15 trout brought in that have a plastic clip on their dorsal fin.

To enter, each fisherman must purchase a daily permit normally required to fish the lake ($7.00 adults, $5.00 for kids under 16 and seniors over 60). There is no additional charge to enter the derby, but the $5 vehicle entry fee into the park will be charged each day of the derby. Fish must be weighed in during derby hours, 6:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., on the day they are caught. Since contestants can win only one prize, chances of winning are good.

Dixon Lake would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during difficult times of postponement of trout season. We are pleased with the turnout of opening day/weekend, and we expect high numbers of visitors this season.
