Fish Report for 9-18-2006
Guadalupe, San Martin
9-18-2006
Bill Roecker
Bruce Smith brought Shogun home September 18 from a five-day Western Sports Shop trip that visited Guadalupe and San Martin islands with a group of 29 anglers.
The biggest fish caught was a 103-pounder taken by Richard Battaglia of Mexico City on a chunk bait stuck on a 6/0 Super Mutu hook. Richard's 60-pound Izorline helped him get it to the boat, but then a white shark took a loving nip on its tail, disqualifying the big yellowfin from the jackpot.
Mike Reader of Torrance won first place, for an 86-pounder. He said he bagged that one on a sardine, a 3/0 Gamakatsu hook, 40-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon tied to 40-pound Triple X Izorline, an Avet JX reel and a Seeker 6470 rod he wrapped himself.
Craig Warley of Hadley, ID was second, for an 82-pounder, and Daniel Summers of San Clemente won third place for a 71.6-pound yellowfin tuna.
