Pardee Reservoir Fish Report
8-15-2014
Fred Dorman
Good weather, temps in the upper 80's low 90's this weekend and throughout next week. Pardee Lake Team Derby this Saturday 8/16/2014 see http://kokaneepower.org website for registration and further info. Pardee Lake water level is presently at 87% capacity (within 8 to 10 foot of spill) with ALL launch ramp facilities and Park services available.
The Marina reports the bite in and around the Recreation Area has slowed again since the plant. The Woodpile may be the best bet once again, cooler temps and deeper water are the primary advantages in this area. Power Bait, chartreuse with sparkles, eggs with garlic, orange and pink mouse tails along with night crawlers on a sliding sinker or a half full water bubble all continue to be effective combos thus far for Trout.
Trolling has improved since last report. There are lots of Kokanee congregating near Deer Island, Columbia and the Twin Coves locations. Trollers are getting some nice mixed limits of Trout and Kokes in these areas. Fish have descended deeper and are now at the 50 to 100 feet levels where the water is cooler. Some other boaters continue to tie off in upstream coves and bait fishing for Trout has been much more productive again lately. Trollers are using Hoochies, (green and pink) along with the standard beaded spinners, Uncle Larry's pinkies and white/pink hoochies, all behind medium size silver and gold dodgers. Those Trout caught bait fishing from boats lately have been partial to night crawlers and power bait/eggs.
Some current success stories; Tou Yang of Sacramento got this nice 11.5 lb. catfish using night crawlers fishing off Porcupine Point. Mick Nichols of Manteca got this respectable stringer at an undisclosed location- Congratulations to all-well done!!!
The Catfish bite has improved substantially. Try the warmer cove areas from Mel's all the way down to Rattlesnake and upstream as well. Power bait, night crawlers, stinky chicken livers and Vienna sausage are all popular with our whiskered friends.
Lake Level is currently at 87% of capacity and holding. Water temperature is currently 72 degrees at 20 feet and 78 at the surface; clarity is good to 17 feet plus.
Lake Pardee Recreation has planted a total of 24,000 pounds of fish for the season so far.
