Sam Patella docked his American Angler at Pt. Loma Sportfishing September 1 after the five-day Little Tokyo charter with 26 anglers to Guadalupe and Benitos.
Chartermaster Stan Chin of San Dimas topped his anglers with the best tuna, a 94-pound yellowfin that bit on a sardine and a 3/0 Gorilla hook. He said he used 40-pound Maxima line on a Penn Baja Special 4/0 reel and a Truline XR rod.
"It was a tough fight," remarked Chin. "These fish drag you around for a while."
Nob Takasaki of Parlier won second place for a 76-pouder, and Tim Ebner of LA took third for a 74-pound tuna. Brent Koshu of LA caught his best-ever yellowtail, a 50.5-pound mossback, and posed with the winners in the lineup shot.
