Braid rep Jan Howard got the best fish on the four-day trip aboard the Searcher with skipper Art Taylor. The boat returned August 22 with 28 passengers, after spending two days at the island.
"We had lots of new people on the boat this year," said Jan, "but everybody got a tuna." She posed with her fish as an honorable mention, since she doesn't enter the jackpot.
Todd Keehan of Carlsbad split the first-place jackpot with Bernie Rubalcaba of Escondido one of two identical 73-pound tuna, in a rare first-place tie.
Third place went to Dale Bunting of Cambria for a 70.4-pounder. Rubalcaba's 14-year-old grandson Jesse Gullion of Orange High School took a 67-pound yellowfin. Jesse said he was going out for the baseball team.
