Apache Lake Fish Report

6-7-2014
Arizona Game & Fish Department

Lake elevation is 1,907 feet (93-percent full). Senft said he fished the lake last Thursday through Saturday. When largemouth bass fishing, it had been more about finding the right area. Cover a lot of water (bass had been in 6-16 feet of water) and find out if, for example, bass are holding on gently-sloping shorelines on smaller rocks, or in the area of a giant boulder. The bite was most effective for Senft using dropshots with watermelon Senkos and morning dawn Roboworms. Crankbaits had been working some weeks, he said. Bigger fish averaged around 3 pounds, but a lot of territory needs to be covered to find them.

Previously, the Arizona Fishing Guides reported that the lake was -- and still is -- fishing pretty good. The smallmouth bass had a great spawn and while on a bed would eat just about anything you threw at them. Now is time to start looking for them to eat some reaction baits like top water and maybe some jerk baits.

Some top-water action before the sun got above the horizon, again mostly small (less than 1 pound.) We caught 20 total between 5 a.m. and noon, the largest of which was 1-pound, 11 ounces. Regardless, a...... Read More
