American Angler arrived August 15 after an open-party trip with 27 anglers. Sam Patella skippered the group.

"We spent two days fishing on albacore," he said.

Scott Forvilly of Tahoe won first place for a 38.6-pound albie. "I got it on a spinning outfit, he said. "It bit close to the boat, right after we stopped, and it almost spooled me. I fought it for 30 minutes."

Scott used a 4/0 Mustad 94150 hook, 30-pound Izorline, a Penn reel and a six and a half-foot Fenwick spinning rod.

Allen Taylor, a home-schooled 14-year-old from Carson, won second place for a 36-pound albacore. Richard Baca of Orange was third, for a 34.6-pound longfin.
