New salmon, steelhead, sturgeon endorsement
Beginning Jan. 1, 2014 anglers fishing for salmon, steelhead or sturgeon in the Columbia River and its tributaries will be required to have a Columbia River Basin endorsement. See a map of the Basin and get more information.
JOHN DAY RIVER: spring Chinook
Open for spring Chinook from Saturday, May 17 through Sunday, June 1 from the Longview Ranch's Johnson Creek Division bridge (located approximately 200 feet upstream from the mouth of the North Fork John Day River) upstream 19.5 miles to the mouth of Rattlesnake Creek near the south end of Picture Gorge.
The bag limit will be two adult Chinook salmon and five jack salmon per day; it is unlawful to continue fishing for jacks after taking a daily bag limit of two adult Chinook salmon.
A fishing license including a Columbia River Endorsement and a combined angling tag are required for this fishery.
SNAKE RIVER: spring Chinook
Open to fishing for spring Chinook on April 26, seven days a week from Dug Bar Boat Ramp to the deadline below Hells Canyon Dam. The fishery will remain open until a notice of closure is announced.
The daily bag limit is four adipose fin-clipped spring Chinook salmon (adult and jacks) per day, no more than two can be an adult salmon more than 24-inches long. Anglers must stop fishing for salmon for the day when they have kept four jack salmon (equal to or less than 24-inches long) or two adult salmon, whichever comes first.
Only barbless hooks may be used. Anglers are reminded to consult the 2014 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations for other applicable regulations.
