I just got back from La Paz fishing with the group of 15 from Mike's Barber Shop in Walnut California. We found out that the water temperature is changing much earlier than normal in the Sea of Cortez. The Dorado are coming in earlier this year and the Yellowtail are beginning to either go deep or further up into the Sea of Cortez. That said, the Yellowtail are still around but finding them is harder. We saw and caught Yellowtail and Dorado right out of our docks using live Mackerel. The numbers weren't high but the fish were there and in good size.
Just to see something different the group went fishing in La Arenas and fished on the Pangas on the third day of fishing. There were more Dorado in Las Arenas than out of La Paz which only supports the fact that the water is warming as the warm currents more north into the Sea of Cortez. Most of the group did pretty good catching Dorado, but as it goes with fishing there were a few who didn't do so well. The Dorado we sea in Las Arenas should be moving the short distance into our fishing grounds in La Paz within days.
I don't have the photos of our trip yet to include in this Newsletter but will be posting them on our Web Site shortly. The group continued to have their own largest fish pool each day and the winner of Day One was Corky Jackson with a nice size Yellowtail. The winner on Day Two was Brad Bereiter with another nice size Yellowtail. I was the lucky winner on Day Three of our trip with the largest Dorado caught.
