Vagabond, under owner-skipper Mike Lackey's hand, arrived at Pt. Loma Sportfishing August 6 with a catch of fatso albacore. The albacore had been MIA for several days.
"The fish aren't moving to the Northwest," said Mike. "Their movements are related to food, and when they came up for us, it was in a "live" area of fish and bait. I think they'll be up a day and down a day for a while. There's some cool water around there."
Joe Alexander of Las Vegas won first place for a 45.4-pound longfin. He bagged that baby with a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad hook and 30-pound Soft Steel line on a TLD 30 reel and a Calstar 6460 rod.
Paul Fitzgerald of Las Vegas won second place for a 43.4-pounder, and Peter Angulo of Las Vegas took third place with a 38.4-pound albie.
