Catch & Release Sailfish Tradition Continues January 25-26

December 10, 2013 - Does this winter weather blast have you dreaming of Palm Beach sailfish?

For those looking to get into the outstanding winter sailfish action off the Atlantic Coast of Florida this season, the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) would remind you to put January 25th and 26th into your tournament calendar book.

The Buccaneer Cup Sailfish Release Tournament has been a Florida tradition for over 50 years, and as one of the oldest continuously-run billfish tournaments in the world is a proud supporter of the RFA!

This year, with the support of sponsors including Viking Yachts, Cummins Marine, American Custom Yachts, Caterpillar Marine Power, Contender Boats, Miller Subaru, HMY Yacht Sales and others, tournament organizers are reaching out to a broader group of fishing teams to expand the tournament and its charity fundraising potential.

"Previously run as a two tournament event, we've combined the Florida Fish for Life Billfish Tournament and the Buccaneer Cup under a single banner, significantly reducing the entry fee, shortening the event to two fishing days and providing more Calcutta categories with a wider range of payouts," said RFA's Gary Caputi, one of the Buc Cup tournament directors.

"These steps were taken to streamline the event so it is easier to fish and falls within the budget of more potential participants," said Caputi, adding "in this way we can introduce more teams than ever to this first class charity billfish tournament while offering more ways to win a portion of the cash and trophies.

"Last year the event paid out over a quarter million dollars," Caputi noted.

The Buccaneer Cup's roots are in the Palm Beach area where it has been run for 50 consecutive years and has been fished by some of the sport's most celebrated captains and anglers. Still a 100% charity event, all proceeds go towards colon cancer research and awareness through its donation to Florida Fish for Life Cancer Fund, as well as for protecting your right to fish through a donation to the Recreational Fishing Alliance.

If your captain and crew are expected to take up location along the Florida coast this January, join fellow RFA members and supporters at the Buccaneer Restaurant and Marina on Singer Island for the Captain's Meeting and party on January 24th at 5 p.m. for late registration and Calcutta entry - that's just 12 miles from Palm Beach International Airport for those of you looking to fly in from the cold!

And don't miss a spectacular awards banquet with our friends and supporters at the Jupiter Resort and Spa to cap off the event.

To enter in advance, go to www.buccaneercup.com or call Gary Caputi for more details at 732-740-9982.
