Brian Sims brought Qualifier 105 home to Pt. Loma Sportfishing August 18 after a Berkeley charter with 28 passengers.

"We had a great group," he said, "and good weather with phenomenal fishing."

Bill Romo of Tarzana won first place for a 97-pound tuna, his best fish ever. He said he got it with a sardine on a 4/0 ringed Mutu hook and 40-pound clear Izorline.

"I had a little handle problem," he said, "and he kicked my butt. I used an Avet LX reel and a Graftech seven-foot rod."

Jeff Lemieux of Tujunga won second place for a 65.4-pounder, and Rick Jones of Bakersfield was third, for a 66-pound yellowfin tuna. A wahoo was caught, a 42-pounder, by Ron Hall of Coronado, who stood in with the winners. Ron said the skinny bit a purple Marauder.
