It was a great week for fall fishing at Convict Lake

Everyday a few happy anglers were coming into the general store with a quality fish. Over fifteen 2.10 pounders or larger were recorded at the store this week. This included five $50 tagged fish during the Morrison Bonus Weekend.
Time is running out on our fall derby. Come join the fun by participating in the Ambush at the Lake Fishing Derby before it ends on Friday.
Catch of the Week: Congratulations to Bernard Galindo, pictured from La Puente, CA with a great catch from Convict Lake. Bernard was using Hatchery Pellets Powerbait and was fishing at the Inlet when he landed a 4 pound and 1 ounce rainbow. Way to go Bernard!
Other Notable Catches this week: Tommy Sanchez, Photo #1: of Corona, CA with an excellent catch out of the lake. He landed a monster 3 pound 14 ounce rainbow using Garlic Powerbait. He was fishing at the Inlet.
To see more fish photos visit our 2013 Fishing Gallery. Steve Alvarez of Lake Isabella, CA caught a 3 pound and 7 ounce rainbow. Steve was using Garlic Powerbait while fishing along the North Shore.
Keith Kondo of Los Angeles, CA hooked a 3 pound and 6 ounce rainbow. Keith was using a Black Wolly Bugger and was fishing at the North Shore.
Adolfo Gonzales of Anaheim, CA caught a beautiful 3 pound and 5 ounce rainbow. Adolfo was using Powerbait while fishing at the Inlet.
Tactics/Bait: Another great week with a number of nice fish (2.10 pound plus) being caught. The top lure was a Thomas Buoyant and Black Wolly Buggers were fishing well. The most successful Powerbait colors were green, salmon peach or any color with garlic scent. At the Inlet a number of 3 pounders were caught. The North and South Shores were also hot spots this week. Other locations to try are the Outlet, Windy Point, Jetty, West Shore, Creek, Handicap Pier, and Hangman's Tree.
Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive: Tasmanian Devil, Green or brown Marvel Fly Lures, Trout Teasers, Panther Martin, NeedleFish, Rooster Tails, and Bite-on Fury Shad on Powerbait.
Recommended Flies:
Dry Flies: Adams, Female Adams, Cutter's Caddis, Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulators, Black/Red Ants, Sierra Bright Dot, Royal Coachman and Hoppers.
Streamers: Wooly Bugger (black, brown, olive, or green), Mutuka (black, brown, olive, or green), Hornberg, and Muddler Minnows.
Prince Nymph, Flashback Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear, Zebra Midge (red and black), Copper John (red and copper) and San Juan Worm (brown or red).

Weather: We should have good weather as we enter the last week of the fishing season. This weekend and early next week is forecasted with the highs in the high-50s and the lows in the low-30s. Sunrise - Sunset: Sunrise this week 6:29am - 6:36am and Sunset 4:50pm - 4:45pm.
Stocking: 150 pounds of Alpers were stocked in the lake on Thursday, October 31th.
