A 300-pounder was reported decked on the Red Rooster III yesterday. Other boats fishing farther north had school tuna and some wahoo, as the fall fishing season settles in. Excel's skipper Mike Ramirez reported a good day on 25 to 30-pound yellowtail, as the boat headed down to The Ridge.

And in another post we received....

Skipper Andy Cates reported on Halloween from the deep southern zone: "Pei Chang Liu with a fish of a lifetime! After a lengthy skiff ride with Nick Maurer And Tommy Ferrari he landed this awesome 307-pounder! On his own tackle a Phenix 700 XXXH rod with an Accurate ATD 50 with 150-pound Jerry Brown spectra and 150-pound Izorline flourocarbon to a 6/0 Owner Super Mutu hook.

"Bob Mains got a beautiful cow that taped out in the high 290's, with crew member Nick Maurer giving him a hand. He got the fish on one of our boat kite rigs: a Phenix PHD 700 XXXH mated to one of our Accurate 80 2-speeds filled with 200-pound Izorline spectra with a 30-foot top shot of 200-pound Izorline monofilament on a double sardine rig with hardened Demon 7/0 4X circle hooks."
