Another great week of fishing at Convict Lake.

Since the start of the The Ambush at the Lake Fishing Derby on September 2nd, we have entered 66 anglers into the raffle comprised of $6,000 in Resort Prizes. Just in the last week there has been thirteen fish over the 14 inch or larger qualifying length. Kyle Winkelman of San Dimas recorded a 3.6 pound, 22 ?? inch rainbow. This was the largest fish this week to qualify for the derby raffle. The "Morrison's Cash Bonus Weekend" is next weekend. It runs November 1-3 and there will be $2000 in cash prizes.

We greatly appreciate all our customers that made 2013 a wonderful year. During Customer Appreciation Days come take advantage of some great lodging specials and the opportunity to enjoy Convict Lake one last time before the snow flies.

Catch of the Week: Congratulations to Alfred Sadanaga, pictured from Burbank, CA with a great catch from Convict Lake. Alfred was using a night crawler and was fishing along the North Shore when he landed a 3 pound 8 ounce rainbow. Great catch, Alfred!

Another great catches this week: Christopher Casselman, Photo #1 from Lancaster, CA hooked a nice 2 pound 7 ounce rainbow. He was using a night crawler and was fishing at the North Shore.

Other Notable Catches: Greg Charlie Thrift of Oak View, CA with an excellent catch. He landed a 3 pound rainbow using a red and gold Thomas Buoyant. Charlie was fishing at the South Shore.

Greg Verbeck of Monterey Park, CA caught a beautiful 2 pound and 6 ounce rainbow. Greg was using a mini-jig while fishing at the South Shore

Tactics/Bait: Some nice fish (2 pound plus) were caught this week with lures, gulp Power Worms and Marvel Flies. Any type of spoon, Tasmanian Devil and Kastmasters were the hot lures. The most successful Powerbait colors were garlic cheese and salmon peach. Any color with glitter worked well. The Inlet and the South Shore were the hot spots this week. Other locations to try are the Outlet, Windy Point, North Shore, Jetty, West Shore, Creek, Handicap Pier, and Hangman's Tree.

Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive: Tasmanian Devil, Green or brown Marvel Fly Lures, Trout Teasers, Panther Martin, NeedleFish, Rooster Tails, and Bite-on Fury Shad on Powerbait.

Dry Flies:
Adams, Female Adams, Cutter's Caddis, Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulators, Black/Red Ants, Sierra Bright Dot, Royal Coachman and Hoppers.
Streamers: Wooly Bugger (black, brown, olive, or green), Mutuka (black, brown, olive, or green), Hornberg, and Muddler Minnows.
Wet Flies(Nymphs): Prince Nymph, Flashback Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear, Zebra Midge (red and black), Copper John (red and copper) and San Juan Worm (brown or red).

Derby News: CASH BONUS WEEKEND STARTS ON FRIDAY!!! The Ambush at the Lake Fishing Derby started on Monday, September 2nd for a chance to win $6,000 in Resort Prizes! Also mark your calendars for the Morrison's Cash Bonus Weekend on November 1-3. $2000 in cash prizes.

Weather: Next week the forecast has the temperatures dropping as we enter November. Next week is forecasted with the highs in the low/mid-50s and the lows in the mid/low-20s. Sunrise - Sunset: Sunrise this week 7:15am - 7:21am and Sunset 6:05pm - 5:58pm.

Stocking: 150 pounds of Alpers will be stocked in the lake the week of October 28th.
