GENERAL CONDITIONS
On October 15, we had our first whopper caught trolling. Since then limit and whoppers are getting caught almost daily. We just received a trout plant of 750 lbs. on Oct. 25th. Our next plant next will be 1000 lbs. from Mt. Lassen. We are also set to receive weekly trout plants for the next several months. Bait fishing from the shoreline is also getting better with several nice size trout getting pulled out from both the west and east shore trails. The water temperature is cooling off with the lower temps at night, and trout activity is picking up. Fishing for catfish is also a great choice right now as we are seeing more and more catches being made with cooling waters.

When you bring in your big fish, we will take your picture and give you a "Lake Chabot Whopper Club" button. If you catch a whopper over 8 lbs (trout), 10 lbs (catfish) or 5 lbs (bass), you will also receive a Lake Chabot whopper mug and pin. For beginning anglers, if you have any questions on what to use, please come down to the Marina and one of our knowledgeable staff will be more than happy to help you get set up for your fishing adventure.

All of our boats are half off Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays! Our schedule for the marina has changed, we are currently open Monday through Thursday at 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM boat rentals will stop at 4:00 PM and are due back at 5:00 PM, and 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM and boat rentals will stop at 5:00 PM and due back into the marina a 6:00 PM , Friday through Sunday.

New apparel at Lake Chabot!
We've got some new apparel here at Lake Chabot! We just got a new shipment in of shirts and a new variation on one of our sweatshirts. Our original pink and orange sweatshirts now come in grey! We also have a brand new stylish light blue Tee, as well as a new brown trout tee shirt. Perfect new look for back to school... No matter the size, come by and check them out!

CATFISH
Catfishing is slowing down a little as we get a little closer to winter, but still catfish several reported getting caught this past week. Catfishing will continue to slow down as the water temperatures cools down. Several weeks ago more than a few nice size catfish were reported caught on the first and second dock. Our last catfish plant was on September 3, 2013 with 780 lbs from Mt. Lassen. Water temperature will determine how active catfishing will be. The warmer the water the more active they will be, especially at night. Typically around this time of the year, catfish are going to be located by Raccoon point, behind the island, back by the dam and bass cove during the day. Anglers are using mackerel, anchovies and chicken liver for bait.

TROUT
Trout is amazing!!!! Top water trolling is causing anglers to limit out on trout fishing early to mid morning this past week. Our lastest trout plant was on October 25, 2013 of 750 lbs. we will be expecting another trout plant next week of 1000 lbs. Our first whopper was caught on 10-15-13 by Brett Allen (also an employee of Lake Chabot Marina) of Castro Valley trolling a gold Kastmaster. He again went out again on the very next day and caught another whopper using the same bait. For now, make sure to use bait that is bright to lure the fish in. If you are going to be trolling, the best lures to use are Firetiger Rapalas, Kastmasters and Mirashads. The bait to use right now is chartreuse and rainbow Powerbait. When trolling, make sure to let out about a hundred feet of line and let the motor do all the work but also be wary of other anglers on the shoreline so your lines don't get caught!

BASS
Bass fishing has slowed down over the past couple of weeks! Bass are currently suspended about 15-20 feet deep. If you are fishing for bass, they are hitting mostly in the early mornings and evenings mostly on plastics, jigs and hula grubs. Silver Rainbow Flukes are also doing really well with 3/0 wide shank hook. Several reports of bass anglers using swimbaits are getting a lot of follows but can't seem to pull them out of Half Moon Bay. Livewells can be provided upon request thanks to Walton's Pond. A couple good spots to fish for bass are; near the island or the tulles by Raccoon Point. Please practice catch and release for bass, as they are not stocked into the lake and their population depends on you!

WHOPPERS
Brett Allen (employee of Lake Chabot) of Castro Valley caught two whoppers this past week trolling a gold Kast Master.

Sal Rastani of Berkeley caught a nice 5.23 lbs. trout trolling a Rapala over by Half Moon Bay

Don Fraga of Richmond caught a 5.76 lbs. trout trolling a Humdinger over by Half Moon Bay, He also caught a 5.92 lbs. catfishing trolling a Rapala Firetiger J-7 (yes, not a typo trolling a Rapala)
