Reflecting on this year's fishing season in Colorado

The leaves are changing, Fall is upon us, and one great Spring and Summer of fishing is in the books. Ninety percent of my fishing so far this open water season has been in Denver chasing Walleye. I have only fished for Walleye in Colorado for a few years now and this was the best year I have had by far in both numbers and size.

Spring started out fishing great jigging spoons and Trolling. My lures of choice for jigging are the PK flutterfish, and the PK spoon. Both produced a number of fish for me early spring. Fishing spoons is one of my favorite methods of fishing but when it wasn't working I like pull out the Trolling Rods and try getting them that way. Another great product from the PK lineup is the Ridgeline, it is by far one of the most versatile crankbaits on the market. Again produced a lot of fish for me this year.

Once the water warmed up and the fish moved shallow and were really aggressive I switched it up and fished any structure I could find with jigs and leeches or crawlers. This is one of my other favorite ways to fish, so easy yet so productive. I had numerous 30-40 fish days by myself. One day I caught 8 fish in 8 casts! Fished with jigs well in to August before the bite slowed.

The other Ten percent of my fishing has been in the mountains, either down in South Park fishing for Trout and Pike, or Granby fishing Lake Trout. It has been a fun summer full of great days on the water, I always enjoy it whether I'm catching fish or not. Now it's time to break the PK spoons back out and start jigging. I hope to get out quite a few more times before the snow set in here in Denver, shouldn't be much longer and the high mountain lakes will be capped. If your ambitious enough you can find ice earlier than you would think. The last couple years I have been ice fishing before Halloween!
