Fish Report for 9-26-2013
As the Fall Season Begins Fishing Remains Great at Gull Lake Marina
9-26-2013
Gull Lake Staff
Fall is in the air in the beautiful Sierra Nevada and that means that the big fish are ready to catch. Though the crowds have gone home, there is still a lot going on in the loop and on Gull Lake. Jerry Farris of San Diego landed a 7lb 3oz Alpers Rainbow trout while trolling last week and Adrienne Payton pulled a 6 lb 15 oz Rainbow from the lake on a woolly bugger.
In addition to our weekly stocking program with the DFG, we continue to supplement Gull Lake with many large trophy Alpers trout. The cutthroats are active again and averaging 2-2 ?? pounds. Trolling has picked up too using 3-5 colors and the Thomas Buoyant Red/Gold lure is working well. The Rapalas seem to be popular at night.
The winner of our August Fish of the Month Competition, Larry Alao, landed at 5 lb 10 oz Alpers while trolling by Indian Rock. The catch also landed him $340 in prize money. We will have a September and an October competition, so sign up in the tackle shop before you begin fishing on Gull Lake. Your entry is good for the entire month, so fish often.
Our June Fish of the Month $320 winner was Simon Timms with a 3lb 19.5 inch Alpers Rainbow. Our July $270 winner was Ralph Lederer landing a 3lb 8oz 20 inch Alpers. Our apologies go to Mike Sidlin and Dean Sato for our error in reporting the 2 lb 12 oz May Fish of the Month catches as 2 lb 2 oz each.
The Boulder Lodge Sweet Deal is on again. It consists of 2 Nights Lodging, 2 Dinners at Sierra Inn, 2 Days Boat rental at Gull Lake or June Lake, and $20 Tackle certificate to Ernie's. All for $175 per person double occupancy. Call 1-800-4-junelk. Come fish and check out the beautiful fall foliage.
Come join us for the Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 5th at the Community Center and Gull Lake Park from 10am to 6pm. There will be crafted beers, a chili cook off, pie baking, food, games, crafts, raffles, and a photography competitions. It's a great way to spend the day between fishing Gull Lake in the morning and early evening.
We are running special sales in the Marina store and we have marked down the wooden furniture and bears. Purchase a hand carved wooden tree and get the second one 50% off. We still have the camp fire in the morning and at night to take the chill off the fall days. Our fall operating hours are 7:00am to 6:00pm.
From the entire staff at Gull Lake Marina, thank you for allowing us to serve you this summer. We hope you all have wonderful memories of being on the lake and hope to see you back soon making more great memories with your family and friends.
