Good morning from the Intrepid. Today started out with some windy conditions and up hill current that made Tuna fishing on the anchor a little tough. As the day progressed and the weather came down we were treated with some great fishing. We managed to put aboard over 60 mixed grade Yellowfin, a few Dorado, a couple of Bluefin and a very nice Wahoo along with some more exotics. There is something about catching 10 plus different species of fish on the same stop that can really make you appreciate the diversity down the Baja coast. We had a very rare Grouper/ Black Sea Bass bite that lasted for a couple of hours. In this time period we had over 30 Grouper, (Gulf and Broomtail) between 25 and 80 pounds and 5 "Blacks" in the 40 to 180 pound class. Fishing 100 pound line and a big bait was the ticket to hooking one and pulling as hard as you can from the get go wasn't always enough to get one of these beasts off the bottom. Four of the five Black Sea Bass were released in great condition as well as some of the smaller Grouper. The one "Black" that we did bring aboard was hooked deep and was in poor shape. We do encourage the release of all Black Sea Bass in good condition and I'm sure this tasty fish will go to great use. Another epic day and one that will stick all of our minds for years to come.
