Mid-day Report
Wahoodad coming to you live from Panama. A mid-day report due to the fact I only wanted to fish a half day today. And, the mothership Intrepid is only a short run from where we are fishing. So, rather than the bag lunches, we have been coming in at noon and enjoying Paul's wonderfully cooked cuisine for lunch, along with a break from the heat by sitting in the air conditioned salon.
Today, Silent Jim and I enjoyed a very special treat. We were invited to go fishing on the Star VIII with Harry from Avet Reels, our own personal cruiser. What a delight it was. Both Harry and Sarkis from Avet reels have been with us on this voyage since about day two. They brought their own boat, and their own skipper, Juan (although Harry drives the boat a lot).
Now Harry fishes down here quite frequently, and he has developed his own tactics that I must admit are very effective, their 2nd day out he and Sarkis caught and released a 600lb Black Marlin . So, we left the Intrepid full of bait, fuel, and water, and a few minutes after we were fishing. Jim and I both enjoyed some fun fishing for inshore species, and after a small lull, Harry asked if we wanted to try for tuna. We both said YES!
It wasn't a long run, and even before we arrived at our location, we saw a spot come up, and some nice grade tuna splashed around a bit. I got picked, missed my first shot, but oh well :-)
Upon reaching the location, it wasn't long, and Harry latched into a tuna, his first this trip he noted. He fought it well, and we had blood on the boat in a short amount of time. Then Silent Jim got bit, and his was a little nicer grade fish. Jim fought it well on his 1X3 Super Seeker, and in short order, we had one just under a hundred pounds on the boat.
After that, not much sign around. I had a request I asked of Harry. I wanted him to put me right on top of the Hannibal Bank, so I could jump in. It's just one of my things, get in the water in as many fishing locations as I can. Harry told me of all the poisonous sea snakes, the jellyfish, Bull Sharks, Hammerheads, etc etc. But there was no changing of my mind, and when I got the signal: sandals, shirt and glasses off, SPLASH!
Now Harry, light hearted joker he is, drives off waving! HAHAHAHA! He came back, picked me up, and we all had a laugh. Jim and I had a wonderful time fishing with Harry and Juan. Harry had some watermelon, and fruit and nuts, loads of stories, pictures of past trips, just a fantastic host. It really was a great day. "The Intrepid Team"
