Offshore Slam on the Condor

Yellowfin, Bluefin, Yellowtail and Dorado were all on the menu for the 1.5 Day trip aboard the Condor that returned Thursday September 12th. Captain Scott Meisel and crew were eager to get off the dock when we all arrived, as they had just returned from another epic 2013 trip. Captain Tuna gave us the run down for the following day. He said that there had been great fishing at 90 miles, however, the bite had changed up a bit. The tuna were gathering around the kelps along with the other gamefish. He also explained that the water had been getting warmer and that the exotics were gaining numbers everyday. They had been finding kelps that initially yielded yellows/dorado and were turning into tuna bites as the drifts continued.

We were all up at grey-light ready for whatever mother nature was going to provide on the day. On our very first kelp of the morning it was game on! Yellowtail charged the boat and every angler was bit almost instantly. The excitement turned to momentary chaos until the crew settled everyone into a rhythm as best they could. Fish began filling the boat. We had an unbelievable drift and just as the Captain had predicted ended up turning into a tuna bite. I began hearing, "There's the right Kind!"

Most all of the anglers had a tuna and yellow or dorado by the end of the drift and the morale was on overdrive as we began looking for another kelp. The second kelp was just as productive as the first and even began to yield the occasional yellowfin. The bite was truly WFO with Dorado and Yellowtail inhaling the baits on every cast. After limits were achieved on yellows and very close on Dorado we began to cherry pick paddies for tuna. As the day progressed we put a few more tuna on the boat but the bite became fickle. None the less with the amazing show in the morning many anglers had achieved the Offshore Slam with a Yellowfin, Bluefin, Yellowtail and a Dorado. With yet another successful trip the Captain and crew of the Condor deserves a great deal acknowledgment for making and executing a great game plan. If you want to fish a huge boat with great rail space and a fantastic Captain and Crew jump on the Condor and experience one of the Best Open party available.
