FISHING REPORT
A reported total of 12 kokanee salmon were caught last week at Lake Camanche! In case you didn't get the chance to read about it last week we are running the feature about Kokanee Salmon one more time! Warm water temperatures have trout hanging out 45 to 50 feet deep out by the dam. Anglers looking to catch trout are having the best luck bringing them in by trolling with down riggers. The mild weather has more people reeling in Bass and we are seeing all different varieties come in large mouth, small mouth, and spotted. Catfish are being caught all over right now and they seem to be biting all sorts of bait: night-crawlers, power-baits, and anything smelly like anchovies or chicken liver. Pictured at the top are Mervin and Nate of Galt, CA and the 4.7 lbs catfish they caught on the main lake using power-bait. Photo #1 shows, Randy McNab of Valley Springs, CA shows off a pair of 4.19 lbs and 3.4 lbs catfish he caught using worms on the main lake this Tuesday.
Kokanee salmon are the land-locked version of sockeye salmon. They have very similar characteristics to Sockeye but because they never migrate out to the ocean to feed, Kokanee are much smaller than Sockeye. Kokanee spawn near the lake shores between August and December. There are various techniques to catching Kokanee but the fisherman we spoke with this week testified to catching these fish using lures.
