Contest deadline Aug. 2

Share your images of the Arizona's wonderful wildlife -- take part in Arizona Game and Fish's annual wildlife photo contest. Entries must be received by Friday, Aug. 2, at 5 p.m. MST.

Winning entries will be published in the 2014 calendar issue of Arizona Wildlife Views magazine, Arizona's award-winning magazine about wildlife and outdoor recreation.

Cash prizes will be awarded for "best in show" and 12 first-place winners (one for each month of the year). Prize money is funded through publications sales. Entry is easy and free: Only digital photos are accepted. For complete contest information, visit www.azgfd.gov/photocontest.

Photographing wildlife is a good test of skill, and Arizona abounds with opportunities to practice. Bobcats trotting through the underbrush, stately great blue herons striking fish, or ingeniously camouflaged lizards hidden in plain sight can challenge any photographer. Being ready to capture opportunity when it comes is the key. By staying alert for that special wildlife encounter, anybody might capture an image worthy of the top prize.
