Hydropsyche Caddis, the longtime heavyweight champion of evening fishing in Yellowstone Country has had a formidable opponent in the battle royal for knig of the evening insects- the Epeorus. The Epeorus doesn't fight fair. Not only does this mayfly have a devastating left hook with its emerger and dun, but it hits below the belt with a deadly spinner fall. Epeorus spinners can be seen in large numbers just prior to and just after dark on area rivers like the Gallatin, Yellowstone and especially the Madison. This year we have seen fish move out of their way to rise and eat an Epeorus spinner in the middle of a blanket emergence of caddis. There's just something about those lifeless, cinnamon colored mayflies that trout can't resist.

We tie this spinner in the same style that we've tied Sparkle Spinners for years. However, there are two key differences. First we use a special blend of our favorite Superfine dubbing which is a dead ringer for the color of the Epeorus spinners. Then we tie the wing with a double strand of Crinkled Zelon or Widows Web. This hefty wing makes the Epeorus Spinner float like a cork, and stand out like a sore thumb.
