Don Baker
Don Baker, Don Baker, Sr., Jim Taylor and Brain Small fished yesterday on the "EPIC" on the ridge. We caught a couple of fish first thing in the morning below the 181. Then we heard some radio chatter about an area below the 182, where the supposedly the hot bite was, I was very disappointed when we got into the area. After a 14 mile move, the water was off color and a degree cooler, wish I would have never left the area below the 181 as conditions were perfect. Gave the 182 about an hour for nothing. We ran back up to where I found the good conditions, not a boat in sight, 66.5 degree clear blue water. By this time it was 12:30, the jigs were in the water about 2 minutes and we got two more fish. We wasted the morning bite running back and forth to the other area and 28 miles round trip out of our way. There's tons of fish and bait, lots of meter marks, etc. Ended up with 4 nice 30 lb. Albacore.; 1 on bait and 1 on a trolled fishtrap the other 2 on a "very small" light brown and white feather. As the old saying goes, "Don't leave fish to find fish"....sure wish I would have stuck with my instincts, we would have had more fish and more fishing time.
