"We picked and scratched out a catch," said Mike Lackey after he docked his Vagabond at Pt. Loma Sportfishing July 16. His anglers had some dandy yellowfin and albacore from the open water some 90 miles from San Diego.
"He fought long and hard," said Mike Duda of Fountain Valley, who won first place for a 54-pound yellowfin. Mike said he used a sardine on a 2/0 Gorilla hook, with 30-pound P-Line on a Tiagra 12 reel and a Calstar 6460 rod.
Rookie angler Brian Denouden of Paramount was second, for a 52-pounder, and John Bakker of Long Beach was third, for a 44-pound yellowfin tuna.
