Bass fishing is working at Lake Santee

BASS:
The Bass bite continues to be excellent with lakes 2 and 5 producing the most this past week. All 7 Lakes have produced double digit Bass over the years.
Cameron Walton, pictured above from Chula Vista caught a 7 lb. 5 oz. Bass out of lake 5 on a 6" river to sea swimbait.
Mac Schroeder released several Bass out of lake 2. Largest weighed in at 6 lbs. Senkos, senkos, senkos...Mac's favorite bait.
CATFISH:
I hope you made camping reservations. Lakes 6 and 7 received a stock of lunker Catfish this past Friday. These 2 lakes are in the camping area and reserved exclusively for our campers. Lake 4 in the Day Park was also stocked with whisker fish.
Join us this Thursday, June 27th for Nightfishing!! Lakes 1 through 4 will be open until 11:30 pm.
Recipe of the Week:
Hush-Puppy battered Catfish nuggets
Ingredients:
• 1 (8-ounce) package hushpuppy mix
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1/2 cup water
• 1 large egg, beaten
• 1 tablespoon sliced pickled jalapeno peppers, minced
• 1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce
• 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
• Vegetable oil, for frying
• 1 1/4 pounds catfish fillets (about 4 fillets)
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• Spicy Tartar Sauce
Directions
In a medium bowl, stir together hushpuppy mix, milk, water, egg, jalapenos, hot pepper sauce and cayenne; let stand 5 minutes.
Pour oil to a depth of 1/2 inch in a large deep skillet; heat oil to 350 degrees F.
Pat catfish fillets dry with paper towels, and cut into bite-size pieces. Dredge catfish pieces in flour, and then dip in hushpuppy batter mixture. Drop catfish pieces into hot oil, and fry, in batches, 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until golden. Serve with spicy tartar sauce.
Night Fishing (registered campers only, lakes 6&7)
** No California State Fishing License required to fish at Padre Dam's Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve.
Fishing Permit Fees
Adult (ages 16 and over) $9.00 per day
Junior (ages 7 to 15) $6.00 per day
Second fishing pole stamp $4.00
*One child under 7 may fish for free with a paid adult
