Qualifier 105 docked July 21 under skipper Joe Crisci's hand after a five-day trip with 23 anglers.

"We spent two days at Cedros," said Crisci at the Point Loma Sportfishing scales. "We had nice weather there and good yellowtail fishing with all methods working on the fish. We also got four halibut there and a white seabass. On the last day, we fished and got plenty of red rockfish."

LA lady angler Marilyn Mehlmauer, M.D. caught the best halibut, which won her third place. The 42.2-pound flattie bit on a sardine on the dropper loop. She said she fished a 7/0 Mustad circle hook on 60-pound Soft Steel Ultra line, with an Avet SX reel and a Calstar 700 ML rod.

David Chadbourne of Tustin took the best white seabass, a 31.2-pounder. It also came on the dropper loop, he said, with a 16-ounce sinker and 60-pound line.

Carlos Fernandez of Torrance won first place for a 39-pound yellowtail, and Serji Iwamura of Modesto took third place for a 32.2-pound yellow.

Serji got his photo taken twice with that fish, as he posed once more with his son Gary and Gary's son Tanner Iwamura, and yellowtail around.
