Salmon Fly hatch update for the big Hole River & the Lower Madison

6-13-2013
SportfishingReport.com Staff

Since the last update the Salmon Fly hatch has really popped over on the Big Hole River. As of Wednesday, June 12th the hatch was at the Power House, so you can expect them to be moving through the canyon today up to Dewey. The hatch should be moving fairly quickly from here on out and this weekend has some warm clear days in the forecast. If you are looking to chase these big bugs around for fathers day the Big Hole will be your best bet.

The Salmon Fly hatch on the Lower Madison has been sporadic this year. We had reports of bugs flying and crawling on rocks high in Bear Trap Canyon, but with the changing weather we've had, it's hard to say whether the hatch has run it's course or is still waiting to really get going. Either way we'll keep you in the loop about what's going on with the big bugs.
