"A couple of tough days here in the Buffer Zone for us," posted Intrepid May 22. "The evening was best with good sign of fish and a few shots at the big cows, but unfortunately we lost each one that we hooked due to one reason or another. Very frustrating! We managed to pull through another 9 Tuna and had at least 15 more go to the tax men on Monday. Yesterday was more of the same, we hooked a huge fish on a Salami for Dan Sunderland only to have the 130 Spectra snap some 300 yards out! Jerry Yoshida also lost a big Cow right next to the boat, John Loftus another victim, lost a Cow five feet from gaff, and that's how the trip has been for us... We are now on the move north and will have some time to fish The Rocks and then some offshore hunting along the way home."
On May 25, the boat's posting said, "The last couple of days traveling up the line have been spent stopping and fishing for a few hours at "The Rocks", and also exploring the offshore Tuna grounds for our future trips. The sign offshore is really shaping up nicely with good sign of Tuna, feed, and the Yellowtail are starting to build up on the kelps. Beautiful clean blue water in the 64.5-66 degree range is pushing its way north bringing lots of life right along with it, so if you haven't booked your early summer fishing trip, now is the time!! John Loftus & Larry Martin put on a great charter and brought an amazing amount of swag on board for everyone. We all came out winners with the giveaways John and Larry put together. There was also a special raffle for the military service men that generated over $600 and our anglers have also donated many fish to the cause as well.
"We returned early this morning," noted the report for May 26, "from our Loftus and Martin 15 day trip.
Jackpot winners are:
1st Place, Wes Cerny with his 216.8-pound yellowfin tuna;
2nd Place goes to Larry Martin with his 198.4-pound yellowfin
3rd place to Dan Sunderland for his 182.6-pound yellowfin tuna.
