The Yellows are Running

While last weekend's yellowtail fishing at the Coronados Islands dropped off a bit due to weather, there were still a few of the forktails caught, and most were 15 to 25 pounds or better.

The Pacific Queen will be running weekend special overnighters to the Coronado Islands starting the weekend of April 13th. Book it online or give Fisherman's Landing a call at (619) 221-8500.

On Wednesday, April 10, Pt. Loma's Mission Belle ?? day boat rustled up 16 yellowtail for 14 anglers, many on yoyo jigs in 60 fathoms, with a few boils showing off the stern. Fish are on meter marks and bird schools. "Today, April 11, is a nice day, you couldn't pick a better day to be out there," said landing spokesman Steve.

Mike Schmidt skippered The Malihini April 10, and his 32 anglers got 21 yellowtail, but not all on jigs, said Rick Marin at H&M Landing. The fish were found by chasing sonar schools. "Weather's down," said Rick, "the fish are still there and now they're eating surface jigs and live bait as well as yoyoed iron. Some are coming on dropper loops, too, and they're running 20 to 25 pounds. There have been opportunities to hook up for all."

On Wednesday, Seaforth had an encouraging note posted: "After a couple days of rough weather we are back to fishing! Captain Ryan Bostian of the San Diego called in with 54 Yellowtail. The weather is much improved and the fish are certainly cooperating. Ryan reported that the fish were biting fly-lined sardines, surface iron and yo-yoed jigs. The San Diego is running 3/4 trips to the Coronado Islands daily. We also have the New Seaforth running 1/2 Day trips daily in both the morning and afternoon."
