Guide Report on Mother Lode Lakes from Danny Lane

SportfishingReport.com Staff
Hello,
With the nice weather this past week the bite here in the Mother Lode has improved considerably.
DON PEDRO The bite here on Rainbow trout is very good, open water in Fleming Bay is producing near limits of 14" to 16" fish, target 15' to 45' depths using Ex-Cel lures, Kokanee Killers or Uncle Larry's spinners. A few early season Kokanee are also showing at the 20 foot depth, spinners seem to be best on the kokes with scented Shoe Peg corn.
Pictured Above: Jack Smits and Jerry Maltbie with their limits from Don Pedro.
NEW MELONES For those who prefer Kokanee get your gear ready, the bite has started. Target the mouth of the dam pocket or off the Spillway at depths from 20' to forty feet (20' feet early in the morning to depths around 40' under a bright sky) Shoe Peg corn is a must with scented flavors of Garlic or Anise during this early season bite. Uncle Larry's spinners, Glitter Bug Hoochies or Vance's Sockeye Slammers a good bet for the Kokanee. Rainbows are scattered but expect bows to 16" trolling the open waters of the main lake, surface water temp is nearing 58 degrees and a Lady Bug hatch is enticing a surface bite, good things to come on the rainbow bite?
