Hugh Marx

Hello from Your Lake Jennings: The trout were on their best behavior and bit well Friday morning and the took a break and did not feed 'til late in the afternoon. Most trout came from the usual spots. Most of the bass are in prespawn. The males move up in the afternoon. Not too many females are being seen but are being caught in deeper water. I don't know of any catfish anglers, so no report.

Best Cat Spots: Anywhere along the dam buoyline.
Best Cat Bait: Mackerel and chicken livers. Use scent liberally.
Best Bass Spots: In the mornings in 40 to 50 ft. of water on the points. Late afternoon the males move up on South facing slopes to 12 to 15 ft. of water.
Best Bass Lures/Bait: Crawdads and creature baits
Best Trout Spots: The big buoy at the Hermit Cove buoyline.
Best Trout Bait; The bait that catches the most trout is an orange Power Worm and MouseTails.
Water Temp: 58 degrees in the AM and 60 degrees in the afternoon.

Prognosis: We will stock another 1000 lbs. of Sierra 'Bows on Tuesday March.5, 2013. The water temp is 58 and is ideal for active trout. Don't stop fishing for cats because the water is cold. Just fish deep! Start throwing swimbaits. Nothing over 6 lbs. has been taken but there are lots of followers.

I am told that this should save Helix some money on imported water expense, which is great. It is even better if you were a fish or other aquatic creature that hatched this year! Maintaining the high water level does several things. The flooded shoreline provides escape...... Read More

The trout bite continues to be good for trollers using orange Power Worms and crawlers. A shore bite from Cactus Patch has re-emerged using water floats or  ? oz. sinkers and rainbow Power Bait. The bass are quickly moving into postspawn. Beds can still be found and there are a lot of guardian males with fry balls. Hermit Cove has bass chasing shad subsurface but occasionally a bass will have a brain fade and hit a topwater. Cats are...... Read More
